Andrew O’Brien, President

Andy began his insurance career at the E.W. Blanch Company in 1977 where he ultimately served as a General Partner, Executive Vice President and director. He has also served as a director of the Health Care Insurance Facility, First Dakota Indemnity Company and SAFE, Inc. (holding company for an accident/health insurer). He currently serves as a director and President of Benchmark Insurance Company and Trean Corporation. He holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and a CPCU designation.

Patricia Schaffran, Chief Financial Officer

Pat is the CFO of the Trean Corporation and Treasurer of Benchmark Insurance Company. She is a director of both Trean Corporation and Benchmark Insurance Company.  Prior to joining Trean in 1996, Pat served as the CFO of HCIF Management Company and as an accounting manager for various insurance companies.  She is a CPA and earned a B.A. in accounting and music from the College of St. Catherine and a Fellow in the Life Management Institute designation.

Daniel Fosterling, Chief Underwriting Officer

Before joining Trean in 1996, Dan accumulated 20 years experience underwriting casualty, workers compensation, property and medical malpractice lines of business, including St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company where he was a Senior Regional Underwriting Manager - Major Accounts and Chief Underwriting Officer at HCIF Management Company.  Dan currently is the Chief Underwriting Officer for Benchmark Insurance Company and Trean Corporation. Dan sits on the board of Benchmark Insurance Company and is a member of the Nevada medical liability subcommittee of the commissioner’s property casualty advisory committee. He holds a CPCU designation, an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation, an Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU) designation and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin.
